John Harkey – Loral Space and Communications
John Harkey is a graduate of the University of Texas with a B.B.A. with honors and a J.D. He received his M.B.A. from the Stanford University School of Business.
John Harkey started his professional career in 1987, working for two private equity firms, one of which was Capstone Partners Inc., of which Harkey was the founder and Managing Director. He later founded RLX Technologies, Inc., with John Cracken, with whom Harkey also practiced law.
Since 1997, Harkey has served as Chairman of Dallas, TX based Consolidated Restaurant Operations Inc., being named Chief Executive Officer in 1998.
John Harkey has been named a director for a number of companies throughout his career. In 1999, Harkey was named Director of the Fox and the Hound Restaurant Group. He also served on the company’s Audit Committee and Compensation Committee. Since 2005, Harkey has been on the board of several companies including Loral Space and Communications, Inc., Leap Wireless International, Inc., and Energy Transfer Partners, L.P. Since 2006, Harkey has been a Director for Emisphere Technologies.
In 2008, MHR and the board of directors for Loral Space and Communications, Inc. were sued by the shareholders for breaches of fiduciary duties related to financing by MHR. During the time of the investigation into Loral Space and Communications, Inc., Harkey served as chairman of the Special Committee for Loral Space and Communications, Inc. and was on the Board of Directors for Loral.
